Red Tape!!

I succeeded in the improbable, I got my boss to finish the recommendation for the application for licensure in Massachusetts.   I reminded him daily, literally as he walked in, (my office is in sight of the entrance) and every night as I left.   That tactic could have backfired.   But all is well that ends well.  The application was mailed two days ago to the Massachusetts State Board of Public Accountancy.

All that is left is waiting…

I got an email today regarding receipt of the application by the Mass. State Board of Accountancy, and per the email the average processing time is FOUR WEEKS!?.  However, I have been put into the waiting pile (of doom) because my score has not been received from NASBA.  I called NASBA and even though I have received the scores myself by SNAIL MAIL already, NASBA has not released them to Massachusetts yet.  Per the helpline at NASBA, they received them in December from the AICPA, but they  have 30 days to release to the state boards.   The operator forwarded me to the state coordinator who all I got was voice mail.  No surprise there since she never answers the phone and she takes her sweet time at replying to email or by phone.  This is not the first time I have had to deal with her.  The last time I ended up waiting weeks for an NTS and she refused phone calls.  I hate NASBA.

Then on top of all that the state board is meeting on Jan 20th, less than 2 weeks away.  After that meeting the next one will not be until Mar 19th, there is no February meeting.  If there is a god, and I am not saying there is, I could have my CPA license by Jan 20th.  And if there is no god, and I am not saying there isn’t, I could have my license when hell freezes.

I hate red tape.

Ben
